Quantities: Keel strip for a 17 ft 6 inch kayak: 500 grams of gel with 5% pigment, 5% styrene wax. Add the same volume of glass bubbles with 6 cc of catalyst.
- A 2 inch (50 mm) diolen tape should be used
- Stick a two inch (50mm) masking tape strip along the length of the keel. With a one inch strip either side of the two inch tape
- Remove the two inch tape
- Using a nylon disc in an electric drill or sand the area between the two tapes down (If you use a nylon disc, the tape will not be damaged)
- De-grease with acetone
- Mix resin and wet out the glass tape. Roller or use a brush to remove all air bubbles
- Mix a paste of gel/pigment/micro balloons and catalyst
- Allow the keel strip to harden
- Remove all masking tape
- Sand down rough edges
- Clean area if needed either side of the new keel strip
