Seat options

As standard, we fit our High-Performance seat in all our kayaks. We make this seat in three sizes to fit our different models.

Before considering another seat, please read on. We know our seat looks basic, but it is truly the product of decades of trial and error. We genuinely believe it is an excellent seat for the vast majority of sea kayakers for the following reasons:

• It encourages a good forward posture with its flat profile.
• It promotes core engagement.
• Its minimal backrest allows full range of movement.
• It does not impede lying back for rolling.
• It has no moving parts to malfunction.
• Its gloss surface allows easy rotation.

You may have sat in other seats and thought, "Wow, that is comfy," but please consider this: if you were asked to say which was more comfortable between a sofa and a dining chair, you would almost certainly say the sofa. But if I then asked you to eat your dinner at the table, you would find that the dining chair, with its carefully considered design, is way more comfortable. The point is that simply sitting in a kayak seat is not a good test. You must try paddling in it to know if it is comfortable and functional. But think about it: you don't see cyclists, marathon paddlers, rowers, or equestrians going about with cushions on their seats; your kayak is not supposed to feel like a sofa.

That said bums come in different shapes and sizes and for those looking to really connect to the kayak in rough water we do sell a foam seat pad and other foam shapes which can be added to the seat.

Custom Options

To replace the large seat we can offer a bucket seat or a foam seat tray option. Both can be retrofitted or replaced with a High-Performance seat at a later date.
